I finally found time to update this and I still haven’t figured out how it works. I’ll ask JV to edit the theme and everything else since he’s the one hosting it : )

I woke up to a text message saying that our org meeting was canceled, thanks to the unpredictable Manila weather. As part of my morning routine, I turn on my laptop only to find that it won’t open. A normal PC user wouldn’t freak out about it the way I did. Its not easy to have a Mac fixed here in the Philippines where it costs so much! So I experimented and it worked perfectly. All I had to do was Google it! Ahh the wonders of the Internet… and desktop computers.

Your Mac won’t start up in Mac OS X

Nothing can be more frustrating than turning on your Mac only to find that it won’t start up. Instead of seeing the Finder, you see a blue or gray screen, an icon of a broken folder, a kernel panic, a flashing question mark, or a computer that just sits there. What can you do? Don’t worry. It could be a simple issue that you can fix yourself.

If your Macintosh computer won’t turn on, here’s how to troubleshoot it. Please keep in mind that although your computer may display similar symptoms that prevent it from showing video, this article discusses what to do if the computer won’t turn on, meaning that when you press the power button:

  • You don’t hear a startup chime
  • You don’t hear any fan or drive noise
  • The power button or power indicator doesn’t light up at all

If your computer doesn’t display any video, it may display one or more of these similar symptoms when you press the power button:

  • You may hear a startup chime
  • You may hear fan or drive noise
  • You may see the power button or power indicator light up

Resolution

If your computer won’t turn on, try each of these steps:

  1. Make sure that the power cord is plugged into a working wall outlet, and that it’s properly connected to the power adapter. (To check if the wall socket is working, plug in a lamp or other electrical device.)
  2. Make sure that the power adapter is properly connected to the power port on the back of the computer.
  3. Disconnect all accessories that are plugged into the computer, such as a printer, hub, or iPod.
  4. Reset the computer’s PMU or PRAM

Resetting iBook G4 Power Management Unit (PMU)

  1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
  2. Reset the power manager by simultaneously pressing and then releasing Shift-Control-Option-Power on the keyboard. Do not press the fn (Function) key while using this combination of keystrokes.
  3. Wait 5 seconds.
  4. Press the Power button to restart the computer.

Its as easy as that! The Apple website has everything you need to know about your Mac. You just have to be patient and READ CAREFULLY.

Til next time xD
